ISO 15837:2004 provides the performance characteristics and qualification tests required for gasketed mechanical couplings, including grooved-type mechanical couplings for grooved-end pipe, mechanical restraint couplings for plain-end pipe and mechanical compression couplings for plain-end pipe. These couplings are for use at temperatures within the recommended temperature range of their respective gaskets.

Materials used must be those qualified in testing and agreed with purchaser.
Machined and unmachined surfaces must be free of defects affecting serviceability.
Test facilities must maintain calibrated measuring and test equipment.

Testing conditions

Acceptable test fluids include water, air, or nitrogen; tests conducted within specified temperature ranges or ambient conditions where not specified.
Pass criteria require meeting or exceeding performance requirements for each test.

Documentation

Manufacturers must retain a qualification test report and include failure analysis and corrective actions when applicable.
