Overview

ISO 16181-2:2021 specifies a laboratory method for determining selected phthalates in footwear and footwear components (excluding textiles) using pyrolyzer/thermal desorption gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (Py/TD‑GC‑MS). The standard defines sample preparation, calibration, chromatographic analysis and reporting rules for screening and quantification of phthalates potentially present in soles, linings, adhesives, foams and other non‑textile footwear materials.
