ISO 16373-2:2014 defines a general laboratory method for the determination of extractable dyestuffs from textile materials using a pyridine/water (1:1) extraction. Calibration and reporting: Mixed standards in pyridine/water at 1, 5, 10 and 20 mg/L. Results expressed as mg dyestuff per kg textile (mg/kg). If >100 mg/kg is detected, the dye is considered to be used in the product.

Reagents and apparatus: Analytical-grade pyridine, acetonitrile, ammonium acetate, tetrabutylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, ISO 3696-grade water; HPLC systems, DAD or MS detectors, appropriate columns and thermal block or sand bath capable of 100 °C.

Safety: Many listed dyestuffs are allergenic or carcinogenic. Follow national health and safety regulations, MSDS guidance, and use PPE (safety glasses, respirator when handling powders).
