ISO 16983:2003 specifies a standardized laboratory method to determine the swelling in thickness of wood-based panels after immersion in water. It applies to flat‑pressed or drum‑pressed particleboard, fibreboard, oriented strand board (OSB) and cement‑bonded particleboard. The test quantifies dimensional change caused by water exposure and is used for quality control, specification compliance and comparative material evaluation.
