ISO 17299-5:2014 specifies a deodorant test method using an odour analyser equipped with multiple metal-oxide semiconductor sensors against composite odours. The artificial composite odours used in ISO 17299-5:2014 are a quasi sweat odour, a quasi body odour (nonenal mixture odour) and a quasi excrement odour. ISO 17299-5:2014 applies to all kinds of textile products, such as woven fabrics, knits, threads, yarns, fibres, braids, cords, etc.

Calibration: Create calibration curves (quadratic approximation per the standard) mapping response vector length to odour unit concentration (OU/m³). Odour unit for a composite odour is taken as the largest OU value among component chemicals.

Apparatus & reagents: 3 L plastic bags with inlet tube, air pump (3 L/min), syringes, micro-syringe, oven (for indole sublimation at 80 °C), detector tube (for ammonia), and high-purity diluent gas.

Output metrics: Odour unit concentration and reduction rate (percentage decrease compared to control) are reported.
