Overview
ISO 18812:2003 - Health informatics: Clinical analyser interfaces to laboratory information systems - Use profiles - defines character-based message formats and use profiles for electronic data exchange between analytical instruments (AIs) and laboratory information systems (LISs). The standard targets clinical specialties such as clinical chemistry/biochemistry, haematology, toxicology, microbiology, virology and immunology (it excludes blood transfusion/blood bank). ISO 18812:2003 specifies message content, syntax, profiles and sequence behaviour - but not transport mechanisms or graphical/image data.
