This document specifies a procedure for evaluating the water resistance retention percentage, by comparing the sun protection factor (SPF) before water immersion (hereafter referred to as the "static" SPF) and after a fixed period of water immersion (hereafter referred to as the "wet" SPF).
Abstract
Overview
ISO 18861:2020 - - specifies a standardized procedure to evaluate the retention of sunscreen products. The standard defines how to compare the sun protection factor (SPF) measured water immersion (static SPF) with the SPF measured a defined water immersion sequence (wet SPF). ISO 18861:2020 is intended for in vivo testing and links to the established SPF and immersion methods to ensure reproducible, auditable results for sunscreen claim substantiation.
