This document specifies a method for measuring the effective shoe length to accommodate the foot. This document is not applicable to heel and toe open shoes (example: sandals).
Abstract
Overview
ISO 19410-1:2022 - Footwear sizing - In-shoe measurement - Part 1: Shoe length specifies a laboratory method to determine the effective shoe length that accommodates the foot. The standard defines how to measure the internal length of closed shoes (not applicable to heel- and toe-open footwear such as sandals) by using a calibrated in-shoe measuring device. Results can be compared with ISO/TS 19407 to determine the nominal shoe size.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Measurement principle: Insert a toe sensor into the toe area and position a heel back curve sensor at the maximum internal heel swell; measure the distance between sensors along (or close to) the insole surface to obtain the effective shoe length.
- Apparatus: A length-measuring device including a toe sensor (with replaceable toe height pieces), heel back curve sensor, measuring wire or equivalent, heel height scale and reading marks calibrated in millimetres. For footwear with heel height
