NOTE Only the high-level process descriptions are referenced in this document in order that the detailed process analysis of the subset scenarios can provide the detailed process requirements in further individual Business Requirements Specifications (BRSs).

ISO 20197-1:2024 - "Buy‑Ship‑Pay reference data model - Part 1: Business requirements specification (BRS)" defines the business requirements for a generic Buy‑Ship‑Pay (BSP) Reference Data Model (RDM) that unifies trade and transport data for international cross‑border scenarios. Developed from the UN/CEFACT BSP‑RDM, this Part 1 BRS provides high‑level process descriptions and requirements to support national, regional, trade‑sector or modal‑specific implementations. Only high‑level processes are included here; detailed subset scenarios are addressed in subsequent, scenario‑specific BRSs.

Business requirements views: Defines conceptual views needed to model Buy‑Ship‑Pay interactions across the supply chain (trade, transport, regulatory).

Participating parties: Identifies roles (Buyer, Seller, Intermediary, Authority, etc.) and their information needs in cross‑border flows.

Business entities and business rules: Specifies the high‑level entities and rules necessary to drive consistent data exchange models.

RDM alignment with UN CCL: Uses the UN/CEFACT Core Component Library (CCL) as the foundation to enable interoperable component reuse and maintenance.

Interoperability and syntax support: Enables derivation of paper and electronic document structures for UN/EDIFACT, UN/CEFACT XML, ebXML core components, REST/JSON‑LD and other modern APIs through subsequent CCBDA and syntax parts.

Maintenance and governance: Provides a harmonized framework to reduce duplication between the Multi‑Modal Transport RDM (MMT‑RDM) and Supply Chain RDM (SCRDM) and to simplify ongoing updates.

Normative references: Built on UN/CEFACT models and standards (MMT‑RDM, SCRDM, UMM v2.0, UN CCL, ISO 15000‑5, UNTDED, etc.).

Practical applications

Harmonizing data exchanged between Traders, Carriers, Freight Forwarders, Customs, Banks and other government agencies.

Enabling Single Window and cross‑border digital trade implementations by providing a common information model.

Serving as the basis for generating standardized document structures (invoices, transport documents, customs declarations) and API payloads for multimodal transport, trade facilitation and e‑commerce platforms.

Supporting system integrators and software vendors in building interoperable supply‑chain and logistics applications.
