Overview
ISO 21350:2023 - "Space systems - Off-the-shelf item utilization" - defines requirements and guidance for the selection, acquisition, integration, qualification and implementation of off‑the‑shelf (OTS) items in space products and systems. The standard helps space projects balance schedule, cost and technological refreshment against the risks of using commercially available items. It is the second edition (2023) and replaces the 2007 edition.
Note: ISO 21350:2023 explicitly excludes piece parts and basic materials (for example electrical, electronic and electromechanical (EEE) parts, thermocouples, rivets, fasteners, connectors, fittings, adhesives, insulation, wiring and plumbing).
