Provides terms and definitions of the main parts of a spinning machine drafting arrangment. The text is completed by the corresponding figures. Drafting arrangements should always be drawn with the feed of the staple from the right. Drafting rollers should be numbered in direction against the flow of fibres. All bottom rollers should be numbered with roman numerals.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 2205:1975 - Textile machinery and accessories - Drafting arrangements for spinning machines - Terminology - defines the terms and illustrated names of the main parts of a spinning‑machine drafting arrangement. The standard provides consistent vocabulary and diagrammatic figures (drafting arrangements drawn with the staple feed from the right) to help designers, manufacturers, service engineers and technical writers describe drafting systems unambiguously.
Key topics
- Scope and illustrations: Terms and definitions of the principal parts of a drafting arrangement, completed by corresponding figures to show positions and relationships.
- Diagrammatic representation: Drafting arrangements are shown horizontally in the drawings for clarity; this does not imply the actual machine orientation.
- Roller numbering conventions:
- Drafting rollers are numbered in the direction against the flow of fibres (the 1st drafting roller = delivery roller, then 2nd, 3rd, 4th irrespective of intermediate rollers).
- Bottom rollers use Roman numerals (I, II, III, IV …).
- Top rollers use Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4 …); slip‑draft top rollers get lowercase letters (for example 2a).
- Roller types and functions:
- Bottom rollers: fluted, knurled or smooth; include delivery, middle and feed bottom rollers.
- Top rollers (pressure rollers): friction‑driven or positively driven; may be self‑weighted or loaded; include top delivery, middle top, slip‑draft and top feed rollers.
- Slip‑draft top roller: does not give a positive fibre pinch but provides fibre control in the drafting field.
- Top‑roller guidance: centre guide (weighting arm), lateral guide and guide arm; top rollers may have fixed or self‑aligning bearings.
- Loading methods: deadweight, spring, pneumatic, hydraulic and magnetic loading of pressure rollers are listed and defined.
- Cross‑references: ISO/R 92 is cited for definition of side (left/right) of spinning machinery.
Applications
ISO 2205:1975 is useful for:
- Machine designers and OEMs documenting drafting arrangements for spinning frames.
- Technical writers and manuals authors producing parts lists, assembly drawings and maintenance guides.
- Quality and standards teams ensuring consistent terminology across international product documentation.
- Training materials for textile engineers and machine operators to standardize communication about drafting components.
Related standards
- ISO/R 92 (definition of side - left/right for spinning machinery) - referenced in ISO 2205.
