This document is applicable to the implant systems which do not have a friction-fit between implant body and implant abutment but incorporate only an anti-rotational feature between these components. Apparatus

A rotatable testing device composed of a goniometer and a non-deforming jig to hold the implant components.
The goniometer shall be capable of measuring to within 0.5°.
Jigs and goniometer must be arranged to avoid direct contact that could introduce rotational friction.
Implant bodies may be embedded using a material in reference to ISO 14801 when applicable.

Sampling and procedure

Test assemblies: five implant bodies and five implant abutments are required.
The implant body is fixed so its central axis is perpendicular to the lower jig; the abutment is passively seated on the upper jig without the connecting screw.
The upper jig rotates freely; measure the maximum rotation (clockwise and counter-clockwise) and record the rotational angle for each assembly.

Reporting

Test reports must identify product, manufacturer, lot/serial numbers, materials, dimensions, test method, goniometer specification, measured angles, mean and standard deviation for the five assemblies, and any anomalies or test conditions affecting results.

Validate design tolerances and anti-rotational geometry during product development.

Support quality control and incoming inspection of dental implant components.

Provide evidence for regulatory submissions or technical files demonstrating control of prosthetic fit and resistance to loosening.

Aid clinicians and laboratories in understanding tolerance limits that can affect occlusion and prosthesis positioning.
