Overview

ISO 23324:2020 specifies a laboratory method to determine the antistatic performance (static electricity elimination) of fabric conditioners and antistatic agents. The standard defines a repeatable procedure to treat test fabrics with conditioner solution, measure fabric surface resistance, and express antistatic effectiveness as the decrease in surface resistance coefficient (Δρ) or the decrease in the logarithm of that coefficient (Δlgρ). This provides objective, comparable data for product development, quality control and regulatory reporting.

Oven (45 ± 2) °C, humidistat (target RH ≈ 43 %), and a vegetable dehydrator (for standardized washing/spinning).

Preparation & treatment:

Standardized washing (soap solution ~1 g/L sodium soap, 40–45 °C), controlled spinning/rinsing and drying procedures.
Conditioner test concentration: 10 g/L (prepare and test in parallel replicates).
Soak treated specimens 10 min, then dry under specified conditions before testing.

Measurement conditions: Controlled environment, typically (43 ± 5) % RH and (20 ± 2) °C.

Calculations & reporting:

Convert measured fabric surface resistance (R) to the surface resistance coefficient (ρs) using electrode geometry.
Express antistatic performance as Δρ (difference between blank and treated averages) or Δlgρ (difference of logarithms); larger values indicate better antistatic effect.
Test report shall include instrument details, sample ID, polyester spec, solution concentration, environmental conditions, Δρ/Δlgρ, operator and any deviations.
