Overview
ISO 29283:2011 specifies how CALM (Communications Access for Land Mobiles) uses Mobile Wireless Broadband (MWB) based on the IEEE 802.20 air interface for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The standard defines the management interface, session procedures and medium-specific options required for ITS communications over medium and long ranges - supporting quasi-continuous, prolonged and short-duration links between vehicles, roadside infrastructure and fixed points. Application-specific upper layers are outside the scope; ISO 29283 focuses on the MWB medium and its integration into the CALM architecture.
