This document reviews methods for measuring the thickness of metallic and other inorganic coatings on both metallic and non-metallic substrates (see Tables 1, A.1 and A.2). It is limited to tests already specified, or to be specified, in International Standards and excludes certain tests that are used for special applications.

Overview - ISO 3882:2024 (Metallic and other inorganic coatings)
ISO 3882:2024 is an international review of established methods for measuring the thickness of metallic and other inorganic coatings on both metallic and non‑metallic substrates. The fourth edition reorganizes previous content, updates measurement uncertainty guidance, and adds modern techniques (for example, phase‑sensitive eddy‑current and the STEP coulometric method). It surveys both non‑destructive and destructive techniques and points users to appropriate International Standards for each method.
