This document establishes a general classification of jib cranes and their mechanisms based on the service conditions, expressed by the following: — the total number of working cycles to be carried out during the specified design life of the jib crane; — the load spectrum factor which represents the relative frequencies of loads to be handled; — the average displacements.

Classification of jib cranes: Defines a working cycle and specifies how to determine classes of utilization and state of loading to form a single group classification for the crane as a whole.
Load spectrum factor (Kp): Describes how often loads of different magnitudes (relative to rated capacity) are handled; used to specify duty and inform design stresses.
Component & mechanism classification: Allows component-level classification (hoisting, luffing, slewing, travelling drives) with individual cycles and a load effect spectrum factor (Kcp) for each component.
Minimum durations and conversion method: Table 3 lists minimum duration of use with full load (hours) for various mechanism types; Annex A provides a method to transform time-based classifications into cycle-based classifications.
Average displacements: Requirements for specifying average linear and angular displacements are referenced to ISO 4301-1:2016.
