ISO 544:2017 specifies technical delivery conditions for filler materials and fluxes for fusion welding. ISO 544:2017 does not apply to other auxiliary materials such as shielding gases.

Product types and welding processes: Defines which consumables are intended for processes such as MIG/MAG, TIG, submerged arc, electroslag, electron beam, laser and manual metal arc welding (see Table 1 for mappings).
Dimensions and tolerances: Provides dimensional limits for wires, rods, covered electrodes and solid strip electrodes (see Tables 2–3). Tolerances govern diameters, lengths and thickness to ensure fit and performance in automated feeders.
Condition of consumables: Surface quality, concentricity of coverings, uniform distribution of core ingredients, absence of kinks or sharp bends; the grip end of covered electrodes must be free of coating for at least 15 mm.
Feeding suitability: Requirements for coils, reels and spools (types S, R, C, B, BS) including helix limits for uninterrupted feeding - helix not more than 25 mm for spools up to 200 mm and 50 mm for larger spools.
Flux characteristics: Flux must be granular, freely conveyable by feed systems, and have consistent particle size distribution across packaging units; multiple particle size distributions are possible (refer to ISO 14174).
Rounding and measurement: Measured test values are rounded according to ISO 80000-1 rules (Rule A); averages are rounded only after calculation.
Marking, packaging and documentation: Durable product marking requirements (on product and packaging), packaging types and inspection documents required for procurement and traceability.
