Specimen preparation and sampling

A minimum of five specimens per representative sample (lot) is required.
Specimens should be taken from locations most prone to consolidation difficulties or from the approximate centre when not specified by the implant manufacturer.

Morphology index (MI)

MI quantifies morphology quality: MI = (N_A + 2·N_B) / a, where N_A is the number of Type A flakes, N_B is the number of Type B flakes, and a is the total surface area examined in cm².
Maximum reported counts for Type A or B flakes and the morphology index are 100; this is a practical counting limit, not a performance threshold.

Test certificate contents

The certificate shall reference ISO 5834-5:2019 and include average counts for Type A and Type B flakes, total surface area examined, and the arithmetic average MI across the five specimens.
