Overview
ISO 8143:2010 - Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations - Calcium silicate products - specifies requirements for factory-made calcium silicate thermal insulation used up to approximately +1 100 °C. It covers products manufactured as boards, pipe sections, segments and prefabricated ware, and defines product characteristics, testing procedures, evaluation of conformity, and marking and labelling. The standard does not cover structural performance of systems incorporating these products.
Keywords: ISO 8143:2010, calcium silicate products, thermal insulation, industrial installations, building equipment.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Service temperature range: Products intended for service temperatures up to ≈ +1 100 °C; minimum service temperatures are declared in 50 °C steps and require suitability checks below 0 °C.
- Thermal conductivity: Manufacturers must declare thermal conductivity at reference mean temperatures; values expressed with three significant figures and presented as a limit curve in accordance with ISO 13787.
- Dimensions & tolerances: Declared length, width, thickness and pipe internal diameters; strict tolerances apply (including squareness and flatness limits). Example limits include:
- Squareness (boards): ≤ 6 mm/m on length/width; thickness squareness ≤ 2 mm.
- Flatness deviation: ≤ 6 mm.
- Pipe linearity: ≤ 3 mm or 0.6% of length (whichever is greater).
- Dimensional stability: After conditioning, relative changes in length, width and thickness shall not exceed 1.0%.
- Durability & fire properties: Durability of thermal resistance and reaction-to-fire characteristics under ageing and high temperature are addressed; reaction-to-fire assessment should follow local regulatory requirements.
- Testing and conformity: Clause 5 defines sampling, conditioning and test methods; Annex A covers factory production control (FPC); initial type testing (ITT) and conformity evaluation procedures are specified.
- Marking and labelling: Requirements for product identification and declared property notation are included.
