Abstract
Overview
ISO 8165-1:1992 - "Water quality - Determination of selected monovalent phenols - Part 1: Gas‑chromatographic method after enrichment by extraction" specifies a validated laboratory procedure for measuring a broad list of monovalent phenols in water. The method uses liquid–liquid extraction (diethyl ether), enrichment and gas chromatography (GC) with capillary columns of differing polarity and detection by flame ionization detector (FID) or electron capture detector (ECD). The method covers concentrations roughly from 0.1 µg/L to 1 mg/L, depending on analyte and GC setup.
Key Topics and Requirements
- Scope and target analytes: Lists many monovalent phenols (phenol, methyl/ethyl/benzyl/chloro/di‑/tri‑/tetrachlorophenols, naphthols, etc.). Other monovalent phenols may be applicable after verification.
- Sampling and preservation: Collect in brown glass bottles; acidify to pH
