ISO 8566-5:2017 establishes the requirements for cabins and control stations for overhead travelling and portal bridge cranes as defined in ISO 4306‑1. ISO 8566-5:2017 takes the conditions of use of the cabin into consideration.

Scope: Applies to cabins and control stations for overhead travelling and portal bridge cranes; conditions of use are considered in design and layout.
Cabin construction: General construction requirements from ISO 8566‑1 apply. Minimum internal dimensions (measured through the seat index point) are specified:
- Inside height: 1 600 mm
- Inside breadth: 900 mm
- Inside depth: 1 300 mm
- Minimum internal volume: 3 m³ These dimensions are minimums and should be increased where practical, with allowance for number of persons and actual working time.
Operator’s seat: Seats must be steady, inclinable (backwards 3°–7°), and adjustable horizontally (±80 mm) and vertically (±50 mm). Other seat requirements include an inclinable backrest, non‑heat‑retaining covering, springs/cushioning for vibration reduction, lockable positions, pads and adjustable elbow rests, and easy access.
Control elements: Layout and characteristics must conform to ISO 7752‑1 (general control principles) and ISO 7752‑5 (principles specific to overhead travelling and portal bridge cranes).
Scope change note: Heating and cooling requirements were removed from this part and are addressed in ISO 8566‑1.
