Overview
ISO/IEC 11172-1:1993 defines the Systems layer for coding moving pictures and associated audio for digital storage media at up to about 1.5 Mbit/s. Developed as part of the ISO/IEC 11172 suite (the MPEG-1 family), this Part 1 specification describes how multiple compressed streams (video, audio, and other elementary streams) are combined, timed and managed so they can be stored or transmitted as a single, synchronized bitstream.
