ISO/IEC 15757:1998 defines the physical, magnetic and recording-format requirements for data interchange on 8 mm wide magnetic tape cartridges using helical-scan recording in the DA-2 format. The standard enables reliable cartridge interchange between drives by specifying cartridge case geometry, unrecorded tape characteristics, recorded-signal quality, recording method and the on-tape data format (physical blocks, search fields, servo areas, track layout and partitions).
