Overview
ISO/IEC 18810:2001 defines the physical, magnetic and logical specifications for an 8 mm wide magnetic tape cartridge using helical-scan recording known as Advanced Intelligent Tape No.2 (AIT-2) with Memory In Cartridge (MIC). The standard enables reliable physical interchange of cartridges between compliant drives by specifying case and tape dimensions, magnetic recording quality, recording method, and the AIT‑2/MIC data format. The System Log is stored in the MIC. Two cartridge types are defined based on tape thickness, and interchange also requires agreement on interchange codes and labeling.
