ISO/TS 20328:2016 specifies the measurements and specifications of the dimensions of a lenticular lens sheet. It describes measurement methods and specifies the nominal sizes and target dimensions with tolerance. It also describes methods to test the stability of dimensions of the lenticular lens sheet. ISO/TS 20328:2016 is applicable to lenticular lens sheets used in lenticular prints, including those that give an image the illusion of depth or make images appear to change/move as the image is viewed from different angles. Both impact and non-impact printing can be used to generate the images. Examples of the former are off-set, gravure and flexography, while the examples of the latter are silver halide, inkjet, dye diffusion thermal transfer and electrophotography.
Abstract
Overview - ISO/TS 20328:2016 (Lenticular lens sheet measurements)
ISO/TS 20328:2016 provides standardized methods to measure and specify the dimensional properties of lenticular lens sheets used in lenticular printing (3D, motion/flip, morphing effects). It defines measurement environments, instrumentation requirements, sampling rules, reporting formats and tolerance/precision classifications for critical dimensions such as lenticule width (lens pitch) and sheet thickness, and describes procedures to test dimensional stability under varying temperature and humidity.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Standard ambient conditions: 25 °C ± 2 °C, 50 % RH ± 5 % RH, pressure 96 kPa ± 10 kPa for equilibration and measurement.
- Lenticule width (Wl):
- Measure an area containing 20+ lenticules; record individual widths and the combined distance (e.g., first to 21st valley).
- Use calibrated measurement equipment with spatial resolution finer than 20 μm (e.g., stylus-type instrument; example stylus: 5 μm tip, 40°).
- Report average width, nominal width (derived from nominal lens resolution in lpi), difference from nominal, standard deviation and classify precision:
- Super high: difference
