Abstract
Overview
ISO/TS 6336-21:2022 - "Calculation of load capacity of spur and helical gears - Part 21: Calculation of scuffing load capacity - Integral temperature method" specifies the integral temperature method for predicting scuffing load capacity of cylindrical gears (spur and helical). The method evaluates the risk of warm scuffing by comparing a calculated integral (mean) contact temperature along the tooth contact path with a critical temperature derived from gear scuffing tests. This Technical Specification addresses scuffing for commonly used gear materials and lubricants (mineral and synthetic oils, with or without EP additives) and is intended for design, testing and assessment of gear systems.
