What is this PAS about? Around 850,000 people live with dementia in the UK, a number that’s expected to grow to a million by 2025. We need to create dementia-friendly communities to enable people to live as independently as possible, reducing stigma and social isolation. PAS 1365 gives recommendations on how to develop a dementia-friendly community. Who is this PAS for? It's aimed at participants in a stakeholder engagement process, which may include:

Why should you use this PAS? Government has assigned the Alzheimer’s Society the lead in driving the concept of dementia-friendly communities forward. The Society has introduced a recognition process for communities to support those that are working towards becoming dementia-friendly, which sets out seven criteria for communities to follow. Stakeholders across the dementia sector are keen to ensure that communities and organizations treat this recognition process as a continuous improvement pathway for lasting change and on-going sustainability to embed dementia friendliness into society.
