Abstract
What is PD CEN/TS 17249-3 – 112 eCall for coaches and buses about?
The ability to reach help on time is a vital factor during a crash. The 112-eCall system in the vehicle contacts the 112 emergency services, establishes a wireless telephone connection and immediately provides the public service answering point (PSAP) with a minimum set of data that identifies the vehicle, location of the crash, the direction of travel, and may provide additional relevant data. It may also provide the number of passengers, and other vehicles and incident-related data. PD CEN/TS 17249 series discusses standards deliverables which use intelligent transport systems (ITS) to increase the safety of users of road transport systems. therefore, the focus has been on eCall. With respect to 112-eCall, PD CEN/TS 17249-3 defines additional specifications for the provision of eCall for coaches and buses. This specification provides parameters and protocols to enable the provision of eCall to coaches and buses. PD CEN/TS 17249-3 provides specifications to extend the scope of eCall to benefit incidents involving UNECE category M vehicles, and is determined within the general context of the paradigm of eCall for coaches and buses in its general provisions.
