Abstract
What is ISO/TR 23989 about?
ISO/TR 23989 provides guidelines for specifying the qualitative estimation of the solar wind energy input into the magnetosphere with the use of operative ground-based information on the polar cap magnetic activity ( PC index). ISO/TR 23989 is designed for on-line monitoring of the magnetosphere and forecasting the strength and extent of magnetic disturbances, as well as high-latitude ionosphere data. The method and accuracy of estimation are ensured by the close association between the PC index and the interplanetary electric field on the one hand, and the PC index and magnetospheric disturbances, on the other.
