The wireless terminal location registration supplementary service (SS-WTLR) enables a WTM user to register at, or de-register from, the current location within the PISN. The ability to register at different locations in the PISN at different times enables the WPM user to maintain the provided services (including the ability to make and receive calls) at different access points. Deregistration is used to inform the PISN that the WPM user is temporarily unable to make use of the provided services (including the receipt of incoming calls). The information exchange Additional Network Feature (ANF-WTINFO) allows to exchange information about a WTLR user between the Home Data Base and the Visitor Data Base.
Abstract
Overview
SIST EN 301 824 V1.1.1:2005 addresses standards for Private Integrated Services Networks (PISN), specifically focusing on wireless terminal location registration supplementary service (SS-WTLR) and wireless terminal information exchange additional network feature (ANF-WTINFO). Developed by the Slovenski inštitut za standardizacijo (SIST) and aligned with ISO/IEC 15428 (1999), this European telecommunications standard provides a functional model and outlines information flows necessary for wireless terminal mobility within PISN environments.
The standard ensures that users of Wireless Terminal Mobility (WTM) services can register or de-register at different physical locations in the network, maintaining essential telecommunications capabilities such as making and receiving calls. Additionally, it specifies protocols for the exchange of user information between home and visitor data bases, supporting seamless mobility and service continuity.
Key Topics
-
Wireless Terminal Location Registration (SS-WTLR)
- Enables users to register or de-register at various PISN access points.
- Registration maintains call and service accessibility at the user’s current location.
- Deregistration informs the network when a user is temporarily unavailable.
-
Wireless Terminal Information Exchange (ANF-WTINFO)
- Facilitates information exchange about the user between the Home Data Base (HDB) and Visitor Data Base (VDB).
- Ensures up-to-date user information for call routing and feature provisioning.
-
Functional Model and Information Flows
- Describes interactions and data flows required to support wireless terminal registration and information exchange within PISN.
- Follows ISDN- and OSI-based service modeling, enabling interoperability and modular integration.
-
Service Continuity
- Guarantees uninterrupted telecommunication services as users move across different locations within the enterprise network.
Applications
Implementing SIST EN 301 824 V1.1.1:2005 in enterprise voice and data networks offers several practical benefits:
-
Enterprise Telephony Systems
- Organizations with distributed offices or flexible workspaces can ensure mobility for users without losing connectivity or telephony services.
- Employees can seamlessly access communication services while moving between branch locations.
-
Unified Communications and Teleworking
- Enhances support for hot-desking, remote work, and mobile staff by maintaining consistent telecommunication profiles and access rights.
- Facilitates smooth call continuity and user authentication across site boundaries.
-
Network Management and Security
- Enables network administrators to track user registrations and access points for improved security and streamlined network operations.
- Ensures that only authenticated users receive access to services at registered locations.
-
Interoperability with Related Network Features
- Designed to work alongside other PISN and ISDN supplementary services, supporting broader enterprise communication requirements.
Related Standards
For comprehensive implementation and interoperability in private integrated networks, consider the following related standards:
- EN 300 189: Addressing in PISN [ISO/IEC 11571 (1998), modified]
- EN 300 171: Functional models and information flows for PISN circuit-mode services [ISO/IEC 11574 (1994), modified]
- ETS 300 475-1: Reference configurations for Private Telecommunication Networks [ISO/IEC 11579-1 (1994), modified]
- EN 301 828: Specification for wireless terminal authentication supplementary services [ISO/IEC 15432 (1999), modified]
- ETS 300 387: Method for specification of basic and supplementary services
These standards collectively underpin robust, secure, and flexible PISN implementations, ensuring effective wireless terminal mobility, user authentication, and service interoperability within enterprise telecommunications.
