SS-WTLR is a supplementary service which enables a WTM user to register at, or de-register from, the current location within the PISN. The ability to register at different locations in the PISN at different times enables the WPM user to maintain the provided services (including the ability to make and receive calls) at different access points. Deregistration is used to inform the PISN that the WPM user is temporarily unable to make use of the provided services (including the receipt of incoming calls). ANF-WTINFO is an additional network feature which enables transfer of restriction information between Home PINX and Visitor PINX. ANF-WTINFO also enables the Visitor PINX or Home PINX to initiate a check of the current location information.
Abstract
Overview
SIST EN 301 825 V1.1.1:2005 defines the protocol and additional features that support mobility within Private Integrated Services Networks (PISN). Published by the Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST), this standard aligns with ETSI EN 301 825 and modifies international standard ISO/IEC 15429 (2003). The standard specifies inter-exchange signalling protocols for two core functionalities: the Wireless Terminal Location Registration (WTLR) supplementary service and the Wireless Terminal Information Exchange (WTINFO) additional network feature. These features enable dynamic registration, deregistration, and location information exchange for wireless terminals (WTMs) across distinct access points in the PISN, ensuring seamless service continuity and restriction information sharing for mobile users.
Key Topics
-
Wireless Terminal Location Registration (WTLR):
- Allows wireless terminal users to register or deregister at their current locations in a PISN, supporting service access at different network entry points.
- Ensures users can maintain telephony and supplementary services, including making and receiving calls, regardless of their registered location.
- Deregistration notifies the network of a user's temporary unavailability to receive network services.
-
Wireless Terminal Information Exchange (WTINFO) ANF:
- Enables the transfer of restriction information between a user's Home PINX (Private Integrated Network eXchange) and a Visitor PINX, supporting security and policy enforcement.
- Facilitates the initiation of location information checks by either the Home or Visitor PINX to verify a user's current registration status.
- Plays a fundamental role in maintaining up-to-date and accurate data about wireless terminal users throughout the network.
-
Protocol Context:
- The protocol operates at the Q reference point in the PISN, as part of the widely adopted QSIG protocol suite (PSS1), ensuring interoperability across multi-vendor systems.
Applications
The practical value of SIST EN 301 825 V1.1.1:2005 lies in its contribution to the reliability, flexibility, and administrative efficiency of private telephony solutions:
- Enterprise Mobility: The standard is essential for businesses relying on internal wireless communications, such as hospitals, campuses, and large offices, by supporting users who require seamless service across multiple buildings or sites.
- Service Continuity: Ensures that wireless users can make and receive calls, access messaging and other network services, and maintain their service settings regardless of their physical location within the PISN.
- Access Control & Security: By enabling the transfer of restriction information and allowing for location checks, the standard supports enhanced network security, user authentication, and policy enforcement.
- Interoperability: Compatibility with QSIG and integration towards broader ISDN and OSI frameworks allows organizations to deploy systems from diverse vendors while maintaining consistent functionality and service quality.
