Single Step Call Transfer is a service which enables a User, user A, to transform an existing call between user A and user B into a new call between user B and a user C whereby user A does not have a call established with user C prior to call transfer.
Abstract
Overview
SIST EN 301 918 V1.1.1:2005 defines the Single Step Call Transfer (SSCT) supplementary service for Private Integrated Services Networks (PISN). Developed by the Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST) and aligned with ISO/IEC 19459 (2001), this standard details the specification, functional model, and information flows for enabling efficient call transfer within private telecommunication networks.
The SSCT supplementary service allows a user (user A) who is on a call with another party (user B) to seamlessly transfer that call to a third party (user C) in a single operation. Notably, user A does not need to have an established call with user C before the transfer, enhancing user experience and operational efficiency in enterprise and organizational telephony environments.
Key Topics
- Private Integrated Services Network (PISN): The standard focuses on PISN, which are organizational or enterprise telephone networks based on ISDN concepts, commonly used for internal and external communications.
- Specification and Functional Model: It describes the required functional entities and logical processes for implementing single step call transfer, ensuring interoperability across different equipment and vendors.
- Information Flows: SIST EN 301 918 precisely defines information flows between network components, outlining the signaling necessary to achieve reliable call transfers.
- Service Interoperability: The document standardizes the behavior and signaling within multi-vendor PISN environments, which is essential for compatibility and integration.
- Reference to International Standards: The standard modifies ISO/IEC 19459 to better align with European and national contexts and references relevant ETSI and ISO/IEC standards for addressing, bearer services, and additional PISN supplementary services.
Applications
The Single Step Call Transfer service is vital in a range of professional and organizational applications, including:
- Business Communications: Enhances productivity by allowing users to efficiently redirect calls, such as transferring a customer from reception directly to a specialist without multiple call setups.
- Call Centers: Streamlines customer service operations by minimizing handling times and improving responsiveness through rapid call re-routing.
- Unified Communications: Supports integration with other PBX and ISDN-based systems to provide smooth and consistent user experiences across complex networks.
- Multi-site Enterprises: Ensures employees can easily collaborate and manage calls across geographically dispersed locations, promoting seamless internal communication.
By implementing SSCT as described in SIST EN 301 918 V1.1.1:2005, organizations benefit from increased efficiency, optimal resource allocation, and improved end-user satisfaction within private telecommunication infrastructures.
Related Standards
Several related standards interact with and complement SIST EN 301 918 V1.1.1:2005 for robust PISN deployment:
