EN ISO 10893-4:2011 - Non‑destructive testing of steel tubes, Part 4 - specifies requirements for liquid penetrant inspection (LPI) of seamless and welded steel tubes to detect surface imperfections. The standard applies to all or part of the tube surface as required by product standards and can also be applied to hollow sections. It replaces EN 10246-11:2000 and aligns with ISO principles for penetrant testing.

Personnel and qualification: Testing must be performed by trained operators qualified per ISO 9712, ISO 11484 or equivalent; NDT activities should be authorized and supervised by competent personnel (level 3 oversight).

Indication classification: Indications are classified as linear, rounded, accumulated, or non‑relevant; note LPI reveals surface openings but does not provide precise geometry or depth of defects - indication size does not directly equal defect size.

Evaluation & reporting: Evaluation criteria, acceptance rules and test reporting are covered; specific acceptance limits are determined by product standards or agreement.
