This document describes index test methods for the determination of the strength of internal structural junctions of geocells under different loading conditions.

Scope: Index test methods for junction strength of geocells (not full-field performance). Tests are intended to be adapted to specific products and reported clearly.
Failure modes covered: four primary mechanisms
- Shear (tensile shear)
- Peeling / delamination
- Splitting
- Local overstressing (e.g., due to anchors or pins)
Test methods:
- Method A - Tensile shear test: X-shaped specimen with junction at centre; peak tensile shear force recorded at constant speed.
- Method B - Peeling test: X-shaped specimen tested in peel mode; peak peel force recorded (tests both orientations for asymmetric junctions).
- Method C1 / C2 - Splitting test: assesses pull-apart behaviour of adjacent cells.
- Method D1 / D2 - Local overstressing test: simulates concentrated loads from fastening systems.
Specimen preparation and conditioning: References normative procedures for sampling and conditioning of specimens prior to testing.
Apparatus and measurements: Requires calibrated tensile testing machine, appropriate clamps and fixtures; peak forces and relevant deformation data are recorded.
Reporting: Test reports must identify the test method used, specimen orientation (MD/CMD), nominal cell size, conditioning state and measured peak forces.
