Overview
EN ISO 15527:2022 - published by CEN and identical to ISO 15527:2022 - specifies requirements and test methods for solid, flat compression-moulded polyethylene sheets made from PE‑UHMW and PE‑HD (see ISO 1043‑1). The standard applies only to sheets without fillers or reinforcing materials and covers thicknesses from 10 mm to 200 mm. This fourth edition (2022) supersedes EN ISO 15527:2018 and includes technical revisions such as updated minimum double‑notched impact strength for a PE‑UHMW group.
Key topics and requirements
- Scope and material selection
- Sheets must be produced from PE‑UHMW (ISO 21304‑1) or PE‑HD (ISO 17855‑1) moulding materials; unknown additives are not permitted.
- Appearance and internal integrity
- Smooth surfaces required; small grooves or thickness irregularities acceptable if within delivery-condition requirements. Sheets should be substantially free from bubbles and inhomogeneities affecting intended use.
- Dimensional tolerances
- Requirements for thickness, length, width and rectangularity (Annex A provides normative requirements for rectangularity).
- Mechanical and physical properties
- Test methods and acceptance criteria for density, melt mass‑flow rate (MFR), tensile properties (yield stress, tensile strain, modulus), Charpy impact strength (single and double‑notched), and abrasion resistance (Annex B normative; Annex C informative apparatus example).
- Test specimen preparation and conditioning
- Designation, ordering and marking
- Guidance on specifying sheets and required marking information.
Practical applications and users
- Typical users:
- Manufacturers of compression‑moulded PE sheets, material suppliers, quality managers, testing laboratories, specifiers and purchasing departments.
- Typical applications:
- Industrial wear pads, lining plates, conveyor components, chute liners, and other heavy‑duty applications where PE‑UHMW or PE‑HD sheets are selected for impact resistance, low friction and abrasion performance.
- Value:
- Ensures consistent product quality, reproducible test methods, and clear specification/ordering language for procurement and compliance in European and international markets.
