ISO 16426 specifies requirements for a fastener quality assurance system to be met by the fastener manufacturers and distributors. These requirements are intended to reduce or prevent the production of non-conforming fasteners with the objective of approaching zero defects for the characteristics specified. This International Standard outlines the requirements from receipt of raw material through the manufacturing process to delivery at the distributor or the user, who is the installer.

EN ISO 16426:2002 - Fasteners: Quality assurance system (ISO 16426:2002) is a CEN-endorsed International Standard that defines requirements for a fastener quality assurance system. Its primary objective is to reduce or prevent production of non‑conforming fasteners and to approach a zero defects objective for specified characteristics. The standard covers the supply chain from receipt of raw material through manufacturing, finishing and delivery to the distributor or user (installer).

Lot integrity and handling: Manufacturing lots must not be commingled; lot contamination is prohibited. Deliveries should be in original, unopened, sealed manufacturer/distributor packaging unless otherwise agreed.

Delivery and labelling: Shipping documents and labels must identify fastener designation and the manufacturing lot or trace number plus manufacturer/distributor identification and country of origin.

Product continual improvement: Encourages return and analysis of non‑conforming parts to drive process improvements and reduced ppm.
