This document specifies a test method to determine the polar and dispersive fractions of the surface tension of liquids by optical methods. The method can be applied for the characterization of liquid coating materials. If applied to liquids with non-Newtonian flow behaviour (see ISO 3219-1:2021, 3.22), restrictions can apply.
EN ISO 19403-5:2024 - Paints and varnishes - Wettability - Part 5 specifies an optical test method to determine the polar and dispersive fractions of the surface tension of liquids from contact angle measurements on a reference solid that has only a disperse contribution to its surface energy. The standard is intended mainly for the characterization of liquid coating materials and supports consistent, comparable wettability and surface-tension data for paints, varnishes and related products.
