This document specifies a chromatographic method to determine the amount of short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs: C10-C13) and middle-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs: C14-C17) in textile articles, especially in polymer of the coated fabrics, prints made of polymer and buttons made of polymer (e.g. polyvinylchloride) by means of solvent extraction and gas chromatography negative ion chemical ionization mass spectrometry (GC-NCI-MS).

EN ISO 22818:2021 specifies a chromatographic method for the determination of short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCP, C10–C13) and middle-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCP, C14–C17) in textile products. The method targets a range of textile matrices - especially polymers in coated fabrics, polymer-based prints and polymer buttons (e.g., PVC) - using solvent extraction followed by gas chromatography negative ion chemical ionization mass spectrometry (GC‑NCI‑MS). The standard provides a reproducible procedure and defined calibration approach for comparable SCCP and MCCP results.
