Specifies a method for determining the abrasion of a hose lining when a certain amount of specified grit is passed through the hose. The method is applicable to rubber and plastics hoses with an internal bore of 20 to 50 mm used for grit blasting, shot blasting and similar operation. The method may be used for comparison of the abrasion resistance of different types of hose.

Overview

EN ISO 7662:1996 (ISO 7662:1988) specifies a laboratory method for determining the abrasion of the internal lining of rubber and plastics hoses used in grit blasting, shot blasting and similar operations. The standard measures lining wear by passing a defined amount of abrasive grit through a hose sample and quantifying material loss. It is intended for hoses with an internal bore of 20–50 mm and is intended for comparative testing of abrasion resistance, not for setting absolute maximum-wear specifications.

Mounting and geometry: Test piece mounted vertically; bend radius r = 6 × nominal bore; fixture ensures nozzle–hose parallelism.

Test duration: 400 min ± 1 min blasting.

Measurements: Mass measured to 0.1 g before and after test; volume loss ΔV calculated from mass change and lining density (expressed in cm³).

Reporting: Include hose description (lining density), reference to EN ISO 7662, grit type, grit flow, air pressure, test time, loss of volume, observations and test date.

Comparability: Tests must use the same hose type/size and the same grit; results from different grit types are not comparable.
