EN ISO 9308-3:1998 - "Water quality - Detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli and coliform bacteria in surface and wastewater - Part 3: Miniaturized method (Most Probable Number) by inoculation in liquid medium" specifies a miniaturized Most Probable Number (MPN) method for detecting and enumerating Escherichia coli (E. coli) in surface water and wastewater. The method uses dehydrated liquid culture in 96‑well microtitre plates and fluorogenic detection (MUG) to report results as MPN per 100 ml. It is intended for waters rich in suspended matter and is not suitable for drinking water when guideline counts are
