Overview
ISO 6020-3:2015 - Hydraulic fluid power - Mounting dimensions for single rod cylinders, 16 MPa (160 bar) series - Part 3: Compact series with bores from 250 mm to 500 mm defines metric mounting dimensions for compact single-rod hydraulic cylinders used at 16 MPa (160 bar). The standard is intended to ensure interchangeability of commonly used hydraulic cylinders by specifying dimensional tables, mounting styles and tolerances. It applies only to manufactured dimensions (not functional performance) and is most applicable to square-head (compact) cylinders.
Key topics
- Scope and purpose
- Metric mounting dimensions for compact-series single rod cylinders with bores: 250, 320, 360 (non-preferred), 400, 500 mm.
- Rated working pressure: 16 MPa (160 bar).
- Covers dimensions only - does not specify functional characteristics.
- Mounting styles (defined)
- ME 11 - Head, square flange
- ME 12 - Cap, square flange
- MP 1 - Cap, fixed clevis
- MP 3 - Cap, fixed eye
- MP 5 - Cap, fixed eye with spherical plain bearing
- MT 1 - Head, integral trunnion (male)
- MT 2 - Cap, integral trunnion (male)
- MT 4 - Intermediate trunnion (male) with selectable position
- Dimensional tables and drawings
- Selected from Tables 1–9 and illustrated in Figures 1–9 (mounting faces, bolt patterns, trunnion and clevis dimensions).
- Tolerances
- Piston stroke tolerances:
- ≤ 1 250 mm: +2 / −0 mm
-
1 250 mm ≤ 3 150 mm: +5 / −0 mm
-
3 150 mm ≤ 8 000 mm: +8 / −0 mm
- Mounting-dimension tolerances that depend on stroke (e.g., XC, XO, XJ, ZB, ZJ): ±1.5 mm to ±5 mm depending on stroke length (see Table 10).
- Piston rod characteristics
- Specifies shouldered male thread rod ends; rod end types referenced to ISO 4395.
Applications
- Use ISO 6020-3:2015 to:
- Design or specify compact hydraulic cylinders for mobile equipment, construction, material handling, and industrial machinery where interchangeability is required.
- Create catalogs, procurement specs, and engineering drawings that require standardized mounting dimensions.
- Ensure replacement cylinders or retrofits match mounting interfaces for existing systems.
Who uses it:
- Hydraulic cylinder manufacturers, OEMs, design engineers, procurement teams, and maintenance/repair shops focused on cylinder interchangeability and mounting compatibility.
