ISO 7752-1:2010 - "Cranes - Control layout and characteristics - Part 1: General principles" defines the general principles and requirements for the control layout and characteristics of crane controls. It establishes ergonomic, safety and functional rules for controls and consoles used to position suspended loads and serves as the basis for the detailed standards for specific crane types (mobile, tower, jib, overhead).

- Control temperature shall not exceed 43 °C.
- Control arrangement & spacing
- Controls should align with natural limb movements and mirror crane motion logic at all stations.
- Clear symbols must identify control functions and direction of movement.
- Minimum clearances: e.g., 50 mm for high-force handles, 25 mm for ≤50 N handles, 10–15 mm between pushbuttons, 100 mm for pedals.
- Consoles, cables & portability
- Consoles must include a distinct control for acoustic warning; portable consoles require straps and meet shock/rough-handling tests (IEC 60068-2-27/-31).
- Pendant consoles positioned to keep operators outside danger zones; cable length/flexibility to allow safe positioning.
- Where multiple consoles exist, only one shall be operational at a time (with safety exceptions for stop).
- Wireless controls (Annex A)
- Additional requirements beyond IEC 60204-32: marking to indicate wireless control, continuous visual or pre-movement acoustic/visual warnings, manufacturer guidance to avoid interference, and declaration of stop-function delay.
