Overview
ISO/TS 24634:2024 - "Management of terminology resources - TermBase eXchange (TBX)-compliant representation of concept relations and subject fields" specifies requirements and recommendations for representing subject fields and concept relations in TBX-compliant terminological document instances. The second edition focuses on interoperability and practical TBX markup patterns; examples use the data category as attribute (DCA) style of TBX. This Technical Specification complements ISO 30042 (TBX) and helps standardize how termbases declare, document and encode domain classifications and inter-concept relationships.
Key topics and requirements
Practical applications and users
Who benefits:
- Terminologists, terminology managers and lexicographers standardizing corporate or domain termbases.
- Localization and translation teams integrating termbases into CAT/MT pipelines.
- Software developers and engineers implementing TBX import/export, validation, or search/subsetting features.
- Knowledge engineers and semantic-web practitioners mapping termbases to SKOS/RDF.
Use cases:
- Merging multiple termbases with preserved subject-field taxonomies.
- Enabling consistent domain tagging for improved search, filtering and subsetting.
- Encoding concept relations for knowledge graphs, ontology alignment or multilingual terminology exchange.
