This part of IEC 60884 applies to fused plugs, where the fuses are primarily intended to protect the flexible cable or cord. These fuses are not intended to protect appliances or parts of them against overload.
Abstract
Overview
IEC 60884-2-1:2006 is the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) particular-requirements supplement to IEC 60884-1 for fused plugs used with household and similar socket-outlets. It applies where the fuse in the plug is primarily intended to protect the flexible cable or cord, not to protect the appliance itself against overload. This Part 2-1 is to be used together with IEC 60884-1 (general requirements for plugs and socket‑outlets).

- The fuse must not be removable or replaceable unless the plug is completely withdrawn from the socket.
- Contacts must maintain electrical connection with the fuse when the plug is assembled.
- Terminal heating limit: terminal temperature rise must not exceed 52 K (as an exception to Part 1).
- Testing & verification: Dimensional checks, insulation and dielectric tests, mechanical durability and other tests are primarily governed by IEC 60884-1 with the additions and modifications in this Part 2-1.
