IEC 61076-8-101:2020 describes 2-pole or 3-pole power plus 2-pole signal shielded and sealed connectors with plastic housing (hereinafter referred to as a connector) for electrical and electronic equipment, including overall dimensions, interface dimensions, technical characteristics, performance requirements and test methods. This document is applicable to electrical connectors with sealing and shielding requirements meeting this document, with a rated voltage up to and including 750 V a.c. or 1 000 V d.c. and a current rating of 40 A, in the field of electrical and electronic equipment.
Abstract
Overview
IEC 61076-8-101:2020 is an international standard issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that specifies detailed requirements for power connectors used in electrical and electronic equipment. This standard focuses on 2-pole or 3-pole power connectors combined with 2-pole signal connectors, featuring shielded and sealed designs with plastic housings. The connectors are rated for a current of 40 A, supporting voltages up to 750 V AC or 1000 V DC. Designed to ensure high performance under demanding conditions, this standard defines critical aspects such as dimensions, interface specifications, electrical and mechanical characteristics, and testing methods to guarantee reliability and safety.
Key Topics
-
Connector Types and Configurations
Covers 2-pole and 3-pole power connectors combined with 2-pole signal connectors that are shielded and sealed to provide environmental protection. Both free (pluggable) and fixed connectors are specified, including detailed dimensional and engagement requirements. -
Rated Current and Voltage
Specifies connectors designed to carry 40 A current with voltage ratings up to 750 V AC or 1000 V DC, suitable for various electrical and electronic applications requiring robust power transmission. -
Materials and Construction
Emphasizes the use of plastic housing that ensures sealing and shielding for environmental protection against dust, moisture, and electromagnetic interference. -
Performance and Safety Requirements
Defines electrical characteristics such as contact resistance, insulation resistance, voltage proof, and temperature rise limits. Mechanical specifications include engagement forces, contact retention, vibration, shock resistance, and durability under repeated mating cycles. -
Environmental and Climatic Conditions
Classifies connectors into climatic categories, detailing required performance under temperature extremes, humidity, salt mist, low air pressure, and thermal cycling to ensure reliability in harsh environments. -
Testing and Verification
Outlines comprehensive test schedules for electrical, mechanical, climatic, and environmental performance including vibration, shock, free fall, and flammability tests. Specifies pre-conditioning, wiring, and mounting instructions for test specimens.
Applications
