IEC 61400-27-1:2020 defines standard electrical simulation models for wind turbines and wind power plants. The specified models are time domain positive sequence simulation models, intended to be used in power system and grid stability analyses. The models are applicable for dynamic simulations of short term stability in power systems. This document defines the generic terms and parameters for the electrical simulation models. This document specifies electrical simulation models for the generic wind power plant topologies / configurations currently on the market. The wind power plant models include wind turbines, wind power plant control and auxiliary equipment. The wind power plant models are described in a modular way which can be applied for future wind power plant concepts and with different wind turbine concepts.
Abstract
Overview
IEC 61400-27-1:2020 is the international standard developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for the electrical simulation of wind energy generation systems. This document specifically addresses the standardization of time domain positive sequence simulation models for wind turbines and entire wind power plants. These standardized simulation models are essential tools for assessing short-term power system stability and support grid operators, power system planners, and wind farm developers in evaluating the impact of wind energy on electric power systems.
This standard defines the generic terms, parameters, and modular components required for accurate dynamic simulation. It is applicable to all major wind power plant topologies, considering present market technologies, and ensures consistent, reliable analysis for evolving wind plant concepts and turbine configurations.
Key Topics
- Standardized Electrical Simulation Models:
- Provides detailed definitions for both wind turbine and wind power plant simulation models used for dynamic analysis in power system studies.
- Modular Model Structure:
