This part of IEC 61557 specifies the requirements applicable to equipment for measuring the insulation resistance of equipment and installations in the de-energized state. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 1997. This edition constitutes a technical revision. The following changes were made with respect to the previous edition: a) definitions complemented; b) revision of some requirements have been revised; c) addition of a warning pictogram; d) complete revision of the subclause on overload tests.
Abstract
Overview
IEC 61557-2:2007 is an international standard developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that defines the requirements for equipment used to measure insulation resistance in low voltage electrical distribution systems. This standard applies to equipment designed for testing, measuring, or monitoring protective measures in systems operating up to 1,000 V AC and 1,500 V DC. The standard ensures that insulation resistance measurements are carried out safely and accurately on de-energized electrical installations and equipment.
This 2007 edition marks the second revision of the standard, replacing the original 1997 version. It introduces enhanced definitions, revised requirements, new warning pictograms, and an extensively updated section on overload testing. IEC 61557-2 forms part of the broader IEC 61557 series, which collectively addresses electrical safety requirements for protective devices in low voltage networks.
