IEC 61935-2-25:2015(E) which is a blank detail specification, describes work area cord with M12 4 poles d-code connectors, as used in the ISO/IEC 24702 and IEC 61918. According to the above cabling specifications, although these cords have only two pairs, their transmission performances, when applicable, are at least category 5 compliant for which the requirements are given in ISO/IEC 11801:2002/AMD2:2010, Clause 13. This specification should be used in conjunction with IEC 61156-1, IEC 61156-6 and IEC 61076-2-101 type D. The blank detail specification determines the layout and style for detail specifications describing cords with transmission characteristics up to 100 MHz for digital communications. Detail specifications, based on the blank detail specification, may be prepared by a national organization, a manufacturer, or a user. This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 61156-1:2007, IEC 61156-6:2010 and IEC 61076-2-101:2012.
Abstract
Overview
IEC 61935-2-25:2015 defines the blank detail specification for testing balanced communication cabling featuring work area cords with M12 4 poles D-code connectors. This standard is part of the broader IEC 61935 series, which aligns with ISO/IEC 11801 requirements, focusing on generic cabling systems. It provides a framework for specifying cords primarily used in industrial and customer premises networks as per ISO/IEC 24702 and IEC 61918. Although these cords typically consist of only two twisted pairs, their transmission performance meets or exceeds the Category 5 requirements outlined in ISO/IEC 11801:2002/AMD2:2010, capable of supporting data transmission frequencies up to 100 MHz.
The IEC 61935-2-25:2015 standard serves as a foundation for manufacturers, national committees, or users to create specific detail specifications for cords, ensuring consistency in testing and performance evaluation. It complements related standards including IEC 61156-1, IEC 61156-6, and IEC 61076-2-101 (type D connectors).
Key Topics
-
Scope and Application
Defines the cabling with M12 4 poles D-code connectors for industrial and office work areas, emphasizing the work area cords' compliance with Category 5 transmission performance. -
Normative References
Incorporates essential standards such as IEC 60794-1-22 (environmental tests for optical fiber cables), IEC 61076-2-101 (M12 connectors), IEC 61156 series (multicore symmetrical cables), and ISO/IEC 11801 for generic cabling requirements. -
Detail Specification Preparation
Provides guidance for creating detailed technical documents capturing:- Cord descriptions, including conductor materials, impedance, screening, and connector types.
- Construction details such as sheath material, thickness, diameter, marking, and packaging.
- Electrical, transmission, mechanical, and environmental characteristics required for cables.
- Usage of codes like na (not applicable) and ns (not specified) to address non-applicable or optional parameters.
-
Transmission Performance
Ensures cords satisfy or exceed Category 5 parameters, including insertion loss, return loss, near-end crosstalk, and propagation delay per IEC 61935-2 and IEC 61156-6 standards. -
Mechanical and Environmental Requirements
Addresses tensile strength, flexibility, bending radius, impact resistance, and environmental durability per the severities defined in ISO/IEC 24702’s MICE (Mechanical, Ingress, Climatic, Electromagnetic) framework. It also includes conditions for temperature ranges and protection against dust, water immersion, and solar radiation. -
Test Configurations
References test methods for verifying compliance, which are developed under IEC 61935-2, ensuring interoperability and reliability in industrial and commercial network applications.
Applications
IEC 61935-2-25:2015 is primarily applicable for:
-
Industrial Premises Cabling
Supporting robust and reliable data communications in harsh industrial environments using M12 4 poles connectors, widely favored for their compactness and secure locking mechanism. -
Work Area Network Wiring
Standardizing cabling setups in office or production environments, where space constraints and noise immunity are critical. These cords facilitate the interface between end devices and horizontal cabling infrastructure. -
Digital Communication Systems
Ensuring reliable data transmission for systems operating up to 100 MHz, suitable for Ethernet, automation networks, and other balanced communication protocols demanding Category 5 or better performance. -
Custom Detail Specifications Development
Allowing manufacturers, national bodies, or users to tailor cord specifications for specific deployment scenarios based on the blank detail specification format.
