IEC 62386-104:2019 The IEC 62386 series specifies a bus system for control by digital signals of electronic lighting equipment. This part of IEC 62386 applies to a system with wireless or alternative wired communication between its units, instead of a wired bus system, where the meaning of “wireless or alternative wired communication”, or in short “telecommunication”, is any type of communication network different from the wired system described in IEC 62386-101. Where the electronic lighting equipment is covered by the scope of IEC 61347 (all parts), it is in line with the requirements of IEC 61347 (all parts), with the addition of DC supplies.
Abstract
Overview
The IEC 62386-104:2019 standard is part of the IEC 62386 series that defines protocols for digital addressable lighting interfaces (DALI). Specifically, Part 104 establishes general requirements for wireless and alternative wired system components used in digitally controlled lighting equipment. Unlike traditional IEC 62386-101 wired bus systems, this part focuses on systems utilizing wireless or alternative telecommunication networks for communication between devices.
This standard facilitates modern lighting control with enhanced flexibility by integrating non-wired communication protocols. It ensures interoperability, reliability, and security in digital lighting control through standardized communication frames, addressing schemes, power specifications, and transmission protocols designed for a variety of lighting components.
Key Topics
-
Telecommunication Definitions
In this specification, "telecommunication" covers any wireless or alternative wired networks diverging from the conventional wired bus described in IEC 62386-101, allowing integration of diverse communication technologies. -
System Architecture and Communication Flow
The framework supports multi-master and single-master application controllers, telecommunication units including control gears, input devices, and transmitters/receivers with defined data frame formats to control lighting functions and status feedback. -
Transmission Protocols
The standard specifies structure and timing for multiple frame types (control gear forward/backward frames, control device frames, and 32-bit frames) for robust two-way communication ensuring effective command delivery and system responses. -
Power Supply Requirements for Telecommunication Units
Detailed electrical specifications and power supply methods are defined to maintain system stability, especially in the presence of power interruptions. -
Collision Management and Frame Handling
Procedures for collision avoidance, detection, and recovery enhance communication reliability in wireless environments where interference and overlapping transmissions are common. -
Addressing and Command Definitions
Comprehensive addressing schemes and command structures enable precise control, configuration, and querying within the lighting network. -
Integration with IEC 61347 Requirements
Where applicable, electronic lighting equipment must comply with IEC 61347 alongside this standard, including considerations for DC power supplies.
