This document specifies methods for measuring the resolution and the spatial frequency response (SFR) of electronic still-picture cameras. It is applicable to the measurement of both monochrome and colour cameras which output digital data or analogue video signals.

Overview
ISO 12233:2023 - "Photography - Electronic still picture imaging - Resolution and spatial frequency responses" - defines standardized methods to measure resolution and spatial frequency response (SFR) of electronic still-picture cameras. It applies to both monochrome and colour cameras that output digital data or analogue video (when digitized). The standard provides test charts, capture conditions, analysis algorithms and reporting formats so manufacturers, test labs and researchers can produce repeatable, comparable image‑quality metrics.
